Elliptical Sentence

Elliptical constuction dengan jenis penggabungan setara menggunakan kata penghubung “and”. Jenis elliptica construction yang satu ini terbagi atas dua jenis yaitu:

•    Positive elliptics, yang menggunakan kata too dan so.

Jenis penggabungan positive elliptics terjadi bila kedua kalimat yang digabungkan merupakan kalimat positif. Contohnya:

•    I go to school this morning
•    He goes to school this morning

Kedua kalimat diatas bisa digabungkan menjadi

I go to school this morning, and so does he atau I go to school this morning and he does too

Contoh lain untuk positif elliptics adalah:

• I like my coffee sweet and black
• Rio like his coffee sweet and black

Kedua kalimat diatas bisa digabungkan menjadi:

I like my coffee sweet and black, and so is Rio atau I like my coffee sweet and black, and Rio is too

Negative elliptics, yang  menggunakan kata either dan neither

Jenis penggabungan negative elliptics digunakan saat kedua kalimat yang digabungkan merupakan kalimat negatif. Contohnya:

• I don’t like coffee
• Susi doesn’t like coffee

Kedua kalimat diatas bisa digabungkan menjadi:

I don’t like coffee and neither does Susi atau I don’t like coffee and Susi doesn’t either

Contoh lainnya:

• He doesn’t go to school
• She doesn’t go to school

Kedua kalimat diatas bisa digabungkan menjadi:

He doesn’t go to school and neither does she atau He doesn’t go to school and she doesn’t either
